Verna Johnson Obituary

Service for Verna L "Honey Girl" Massington Johnson of Marlin died April 24, 2020 at her residence will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Marlin Missionary Baptist Church. Horse Drawn Carriage will be celebrated after her service at Hillcrest Cemetery in Marlin.  We Will continue to follow "Social Distance" on Saturday at the Church. The family will have tickets to pass out as well as mask will still be required. 

Verna Johnson was born on September 4, 1953 in Lubbock, Texas to J.C. and Earnestine Massington.

At an early age, Verna accepted Christ and joined the Church of the Living God where she was a member until her passiing.

Verna Johnson attended Booker T. Washington school in Marlin, Texas, where she graduated in the class of 1972. There she met lifetime friends: Shirley Hayes, Brenda Clay, Brenda Brooks, Carolyn Ward, Linda Faye Newman, Carolyn McGowan -Linton, Patricia Gude, Carolyn Weatherspoon--Linton,  Evelyn Lang- Smith and Soraya Payne. She had special cousins; Billy Carl Lawton and Mary Scott,

Later in life she met and married her soulmate Charles Earl Johnson Sr. The couple enjoyed one another for 38 years. They had four children.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson Brian McCraw Jr.

She leaves to cherish in memory her loving and devoted husband; Charles Earl Johnson Sr., One daughter Roshanda Massington (Brian), Larry Massington (Sasha), Charles Earl Johnson Jr.(Pam), and Joshua Johnson (Tyesha). Twenty-five grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren. Two sisters; Dorothy Jackson (Richard)and Christine Massington. Two Brothers David Massington and Joe Massington. She had three sister-in-laws Gloria Sparks, Eva Mitchell, and Martha Kate Aristide. Four brother-in-laws ; James Johnson, Pernell Johnson, Wade Johnson (Linda), and Donnie Johnson. A special former sister-in-law Sherry Massington, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
