“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven; A time to be born and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

Manuel Lang Jr was the 2nd son and 3rd child of Manuel Sr. and Janella (Sponnie) Lang. He was born February 26th, 1960 in Marlin, Texas and received salvation at an early age at the Church of the Living God P.G.T.  He attended Marlin Independent School District and graduated with the class of 1978. He played football but received the nickname “Sponnie G” from his talent on the basketball court.

Manuel worked at Dresser Mineral Glass Plant in Kosse, Texas under the supervision of his dad for a season. He later worked with his older brother in the tree planting and landscaping business. He had a profitable income using natural abilities of raising and training greyhounds for racing, bulldogs for pets, roosters for fighting and most of all he loved fishing. This hobby earned him the nickname “Little River Poo” and all his nieces and nephews thought highly of him. His family and everyone knew whenever he hit the scene there would never be a dull moment. Manuel was the life of the party as he was a great comedian who could make one laugh to tears at any situation.

His young adult life brought him two children he adoringly called Pig and Little Manuel. His friendship with Renia Anderson was never broken. He was passionate about family and was a role model for many young boys in the community.

Monday, July 13th, around noontime, “Little River Poo” took his last breath as he answered God’s will with his daughter Pig holding his hand. Manuel Jr was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Sr. and Janella, three brothers, Ray Charles and Elijah Jeffery, Christopher Troy  and one sister, Hope Lanell, grandparents, WC and Annie B. Clay, Pearline and James Smith, and a host of uncles, aunts and cousins.

He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter LaTandria Shaneak (Waco), one son, Manuel III (Ft Worth), a sister Neddie Pearl, two brothers James Barry and Michael London of Marlin, adopted children Vincent Strickland, Angelia Miller and Courtney Richardson, a forever daughter-n-law Nekenjii Young, and an adopted mother Evelyn Clay. Beloved grandchildren DyiKerria (Joshua), J’Zhariear (Deandrea), Je’Kyarri, Demarkus, Paige, Janell, Nisha, DaLasDon, Kei’ayr, LaTrice and ShaQuilla, and a host of great grandchildren who fondly called him “Pawpaw”

Other extended family include accepted sisters, LaVonda and Soraya; forever sister-n-laws Carolyn, Susan, Vanessa and Melissa; also, a host of aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews who were all very special. A special friend of many years Doris Robinson.

To know Little River was to love him. He loved family and friend gatherings. He was a natural leader and commanded a great presence amongst his peers. Manuel was well loved and will be greatly missed.
